By popular demand, we bring you Ted Rypel's interview with Joseph Stefano from TOLAIR!
Special Thanks to Ted Rypel for sharing this with the WACT family.
An episode of The Outer Limits a Day as seen through the eyes of Peter Enfantino and John Scoleri.
Apologies for having to switch to moderated comments. This joker (https://www.blogger.com/profile/07287821785570247118) has been spamming our site for weeks, and we're hoping this will finally get him/her/it to crawl back into the hole from whence it came. Sadly the site isn't smart enough to detect that every single comment they make is spam. We'll be sure to review and post legitimate comments quickly. As for you, "Blogger" (trust me, we've got far more imaginative and appropriate names for you) on behalf of all of us at WACT, don't let the door hit you on the way out!
What a marvellous way to go out. Thank for this and for all those magnificent 'Spotlights' that will be referenced again and again (I particularly loved the one on 'Demon with a Glass Hand'). Bravo
ReplyDeleteThis was always a terrific interview. I love Stefano's comments about fantasy writing being something we can all relate to, the common connection. And clearly producer Joe demanded a bear for every episode for the most logical of reasons: the pilot they sold to ABC showcased one ("The Galaxy Being"), so monsters were expected. Great memories, Ted!
ReplyDeleteA perfect WACT capper, Ted. Thanks (again).
ReplyDeleteTed, I have kept the first 2 issues of TOLAIR all these years (with the silk screens), but I always wondered--did a third issue ever come out?
ReplyDeleteHey Jack -
ReplyDeleteIn case you missed it, here's the 'Everything you ever wanted to know about Ted C. Rypel but were afraid to ask' post:

That was one helluva treat, Ted. Thanks to all for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBobby, Gary G., Mark H., Peter Farris---Everyone who expressed enjoyment over this reprint is quite welcome. It was a joy to conduct, all those years ago, and a pleasure to share again.
ReplyDeleteThanks, host John, for tipping Jack Seabrook to the OL Tavern interview. It reminds me that we never posted the second TOLAIR Gary Dumm silk screen print ("Soldier"). I suppose we'll get around to it.
Literally, a Control Voice capstone. Bravo, Ted. Awe and mystery, yeah, still.
ReplyDeleteA really great interview Ted, I hadn't read it in a while- lots of great tidbits of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteTed:
ReplyDeleteWe did too post the "Soldier" silkscreen, in the "OUTER LIMITS IN COLOR" entry from January.
David J---
ReplyDeleteIndeed you did! Sorry, I came away so impressed with your OUTER LIMITS birthday cake that it obscured the memory of all the other great color pix posted on that blog! I remember being surprised that you still had records of the two that were never produced.
Thanks for sharing this--a nice capstone, indeed. I was especially fascinated by Stefano's comments about the bears and why they were there, and his assertion that he would have done the show for another couple of years if only they hadn't switched the timeslot. The imagination drools at the thought . . . (yes, my imagination is capable of drooling--must be all that loose stuff in my brain).
