But let's not forget our other daily bloggers, Jim Barwise, Bobby J., etc and especially Mr. "UTW" --- a fixture of this blog who always had something interesting (and occasionally offbeat) to contribute. He was also with us through the bulk of THRILLER experience, so he deserves a bit of a shout-out for endurance.

It's been fun (and the THRILLER run was a blast also--too bad we didn't do limericks for that one!)

LRLarry Rapchaknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8535833613343533564.post-28440221108176683572011-03-18T18:59:08.837-07:002011-03-18T18:59:08.837-07:00Let's raise our glasses and drink a toast to o...Let's raise our glasses and drink a toast to one of the greatest accidents since the big bang. Somehow, an oversupply of talent landed in the same place at the same time, and all too briefly, gave us some unforgettable viewing.

The Outer Limits might be the biggest double cross in Television history too. The ABC brass thought they were getting a simple monster show, but Leslie Stevens and Joseph Stefano had other plans. Instead, the show itself became the ABC execs monster, and like ignorant villagers, they just had to kill it off. After TOL, network heads looked to Irwin Allen to provide them with their monsters.

Every now and then Warner Brothers drags out their classic cartoon characters for another outing. It never works, because the environment that spawned those characters doesn't exist any more, and the creative talent is long gone.

It's the same for The Outer Limits. The lunatics don't get to run the asylum these days, and even if they did, they wouldn't have the inspired lunacy of the Daystar originals. In the 1990s, the best anyone could do was a watered down show that should've been called “The Twilight Limits.”

So, treasure those DVD box sets, and pray for a remastered special edition Blu-Ray release, because there will never be another show like it.

“the mysteries of the universe don’t mind. They reveal themselves to nobodies…who care.”

The Outer Limits was the mystery, and we were the nobodies who cared ... and tuned in every week.

All the best,

Glenn :)

P.S. A very special thanks to our hosts, and everyone who contributed to the success of WACT.GlennMEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08536558149189057537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8535833613343533564.post-23612498244860233522011-03-18T11:15:39.168-07:002011-03-18T11:15:39.168-07:00You're a class act, guys.
